Frequently Asked Questions and Answers About Superior Walls

Quite a lot goes into designing and building a custom modular home. At Shorten Homes, we sweat the details so you don’t have to. One example is how we’ve developed a longstanding relationship with Superior Walls—a company that brings exceptional value and quality to our customers’ new homes. Learn all about Superior Walls here, and please don’t hesitate to reach out to our customer service team if you have any other questions.

What exactly is a Superior Wall?

Superior Walls is both a company and a product. The company, based in Pennsylvania, specializes in the manufacture of innovative, turnkey foundation systems. Superior Walls are pre-cast foundation walls. Here at Shorten Homes, we prefer to use them for our homeowners because they offer exceptional quality, longevity, and durability. These patented products are available in a variety of heights, including 4’, 8’2”, 9’, and 10’, which means they are suitable for any size of foundation.

The company uses an exciting manufacturing process to create Superior Walls. In fact, they are built with the same general approach as a modular home. We build our modular homes in a climate-controlled environment to preserve quality while reducing time to completion. Similarly, Superior Walls builds their pre-cast foundation walls in a climate-controlled factory. This ensures that the product is of consistent and reliable quality every single time. The super high-density concrete is cast at 5,000 psi using concrete mix that is moisture-resistant. (This means that homeowners don’t incur damp proofing expenses.)

In addition each Superior Wall foundation includes stone footers and perimeter drains, and each panel is individually sealed with high-strength polyurethane sealant. This ensures that homeowners don’t have to worry about water damage.

Thanks to the efficient process, Superior Walls can be delivered and set in sections at your site in less than one day. And since the product is already cured, you won’t have to wait for the rest of the home set-up process to begin. Compare that to a typical poured foundation, which may need up to 60 days to fully cure.

What are the benefits of using Superior Walls?

Superior Walls offer incredible benefits for our customers. For starters, you won’t be able to find another wall system company that offers a structural and sidewall warranty—only Superior Walls stands behind their product to this extent.

In addition, our customers love that Superior Walls greatly accelerates their timeline toward the move in date. Since Superior Walls are factory-built, there are no delays for the curing process. As soon as they are set (which takes less than a day), our crew can get to work assembling your home. Superior Walls are already prepped for hanging drywall and running wiring, which means you can enjoy your completed home that much sooner.

In addition, Superior Walls offer:

  • Complete compliance with building code requirements
  • Exceptional energy efficiency, with R-21 insulation bonded to the concrete
  • The capacity to increase energy efficiency further with additional insulation
  • Laser-leveling for precision

Why are Superior Walls expensive?

Superior Walls are one of the best foundation systems available on the market for U.S. home buyers and builders. Considering the value you’ll receive, the cost is actually quite reasonable. Plus, they’re included in Shorten Homes’ base price for foundations. (The base price also includes the foundation excavation and backfilling.)

In addition, Superior Walls can lower the cost of home maintenance. Because a Superior Wall basement is far more energy-efficient than a standard basement, you can enjoy lower utility bills along with more living space. It’s thanks to the continuous layer of insulation that the company bonds directly to the concrete. Plus, the design even allows you to add more insulation if you wish.

Why does Shorten Homes only use Superior Walls for foundations?

The foundation is arguably the most important element of your home. It may not be the most glamorous or aesthetically appealing part of a house, but it’s certainly crucial for the integrity of the building. Because of this, it’s important to get the foundation done right the first time. That’s why Shorten Homes only uses Superior Walls when laying a foundation for our home buyers.

Does Shorten Homes offer Superior Walls on every build?

As a home buyer working with Shorten Homes, you have a lot of options to choose from. One of the decisions you’ll need to make is whether to have us handle your site work for you, or whether you’d prefer to contract with another company separately. If you decide to have another company do your site preparation, they may not use Superior Walls. It’s entirely possible they prefer to do a block or poured wall for your foundation instead.

Shorten Homes is only able to offer Superior Walls when you contract with us for your site work. We’ve maintained a longstanding relationship with the company behind these exceptional foundation walls, with good reason. We genuinely believe they offer the best possible quality for our home buyers.
Superior Walls are only one reason why Shorten Homes offers some of the most well-built, architecturally superior homes you’ll find anywhere. We offer completely customizable modular home plans with an overload of options to choose from and a worry-free warranty. Plus, you’ll love our exceptional customer service; we’ll walk you through every step of the homebuilding and buying process, answering all of your questions in full and delivering complete transparency.
