Shorten Homes BBB Business Review

There are many misconceptions about modular homes, so let us set the record straight. Keep reading to learn more about the benefits, costs, and construction of modular homes

Modular Homes Are Cheap.

Of all the modular home myths, this is probably the one we hear the most. Many people think a modular home is a cheap alternative to traditional stick-built houses. However, there are plenty of advantages to modular homes.

The biggest difference with modular homes is that they are built off-site in a factory.  The factory will have a controlled climate and the builders do not have to deal with the harsh elements that the weather brings. At Shorten Homes, we use the same high-quality materials that are used to build a traditional home, so there is little to no difference between modular and traditional or stick-built homes.

They Have Foundation Issues.

Another of the most common modular home myths is that they have foundation issues.. In fact, modular homes do not have any foundation issues because they are built on top of concrete slabs.

Modular homes are built on a permanent foundation and must comply with local building codes and standards in the area where the home will be placed. They often have full basements.

They Need to be Installed by an Engineer.

Another misconception about modular homes is that they need to be installed by an engineer. While some people think that engineers are required to install them, there are actually no regulations requiring engineers to install them.

All Modular Homes Look the Same

There are many different types and modular home designs available. Some common types include ranch-style homes, Cape Cod-style homes, and two-story homes.  You could drive past one and not even realize it’s a modular home.

We offer a lot of design samples to help you design your home and we always welcome customizations. However, our team is highly experienced in what we do and are able to create a floor plan that meets your preferences and budget. Customization of your modular home is our main service and we are confident in what we do!

We specialize in building custom homes from the ground up. Our sales team has more than 60 years of experience and we have built countless custom homes over the years. We are able to build in a state-of-the-art indoor factory.

Modular Home Construction Isn’t as Reliable as Stick-Built Construction

We exclusively use Superior Walls®, a corporation that excels in world class, patented foundations in 4, 8, 9, and 10 foot heights. These walls are pre-cast and built in a controlled facility, and are fully insulated, prepped for both drywall and electrical tie ins. There isn’t a better foundation out there, and better yet – they are installed on-site in less than one day.

Our team is highly experienced in what we do and are able to create a floorplan that meets your preferences and budget. Our homes are every bit as reliable as most traditionally built homes. Customization is our main service and we are confident in what we do!

Modular Homes Don’t Last

There are many modular home myths about the aging of modular homes.  That home buyers just don’t believe that a modular home is going to be durable. This is untrue.  Shorten Homes is focused on two main aspects when constructing your home. These are strength and durability.

Like a traditional stick-built home, architects and developers engineer them with robust materials. Modular homes can stand up to time, weather, and even seismic activity.

If you are looking to get a modular home built for your family, we will be more than happy to assist you with your needs. Our team at Shorten Homes can provide you with all the information you need about our modular homes.
